Tinnitus

What is Tinnitus?
Tinnitus, more commonly known as ringing in the ears, is a condition where one hears sounds that do not come from an external source. These sounds can range from ringing and buzzing to clicking, whooshing, or hissing. Tinnitus can be either temporary or chronic. Although it is often not considered serious, it can be quite bothersome and significantly impact the quality of life.

The Role of Nerves in Tinnitus
A key factor in the development of tinnitus can be the compression or damage of nerves. This form of tinnitus often manifests as a result of issues not directly related to hearing itself, but more with the somatosensory systems of the body. For example, muscle tension can affect the auditory nerve and lead to tinnitus. This is known as somatosensory tinnitus.
